Regions and Development in a new global framework

The conference entitled ‘‘Regions and Development: the role of the Regions in a new global framework’’ was co-organised with CPMR and hosted by the Region Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur in May 2009. This event gathered numerous representatives from regions and cities of Europe, Morocco, Senegal and Zimbabwe as well as representatives from the European Commission, EU member States and UNDP.

The debates underlined the experience of regions, most notably those in Wales, Andalusia and the Pays de la Loire who coordinate and/or facilitate the exchange with partners in developing countries of information and actions conducted by actors in their regions. 

The participants also approached the need for a methodology and more tools in order to serve the local/regional approach and to allow a more effective aid: during the integration of the regions and cities in the new aid mechanism as well as the collaborative organisation of local and regional authorities themselves both in Europe and in developing countries.
