Millenium Development Goals

PLATFORMA contributed with the European Parliament and Commission to the preparation of the European position in view of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals+10 Summit in New York on 20-22 September 2010.

In its written position, PLATFORMA stressed the importance of the role local and regional authorities have in implementing  the MDGs on the ground, assuring their inhabitants have access to basic services and representing the political level the closest to the citizens. Further involving this level of governance when assessing progress made towards the MDGs and reformulating the European and global strategy would be key to accelerate the achievement of the MDGs.

PLATFORMA defends a local, regional and integrated approach towards the MDGs that should be implemented and evaluation at local and regional level in partnership with the central power and with all actors involved.  

United Cities and Local Governments ( UCLG), worldwide organisation of local and regional authorities, will bring the voice of LRA during the New York Summit next September.
