PLATFORMA positions

Since 2009, PLATFORMA has been engaging in a dialogue with the European Institutions and has brought the voice of local and regional authorities in the European debate on Development policy. 

The European Commission regularly consults PLATFORMA as a representative of European local and regional authorities. 

PLATFORMA has contributed, most notably, to the following debates:

-       Improving the thematic programme ‘‘Non State Actors/ Local Authorities’’: discussion of 2009 and 2010 annual actions programmes as well as of  its mid-term review. Adaptations of the programme that followed the recommendations of PLATFORMA led to a significant improvement of the number of LRA applying to this programme. 

-     The Millennium Development Goals, in particular in the framework of the preparation of a European position for the MDG+10 Summit in September 2010.

-    Participation in the ‘Quadrilogue’, structured dialogue organised by the European Commission with member states, the European Parliament, Civil Society and Local and Regional Authorities on the future of European Development Policy.

-  Last but not least PLATFORMA hosts the technical secretariat of the European Charter on Development cooperation in support of local governance and ensures its promotion and dissemination at European level
